Purpose
Bad-weather alerts for flight simulator aviators
We flag airport conditions that increase pilot workload — low ceilings and visibility, strong crosswinds and gusts, wind shear and microbursts, thunderstorms, icing, heavy precipitation, and contaminated runways.
Flying is easier when the weather behaves — tough when it doesn’t. We show you the specific airport conditions that make flying hazardous and demanding for pilots: low ceilings and poor visibility, strong or gusty crosswinds, wind shear and sudden gust fronts, convective activity and thunderstorms, icing and freezing precipitation, extreme temperatures, heavy rain or snow that contaminates runways, and turbulence aloft.
simWX uses live weather data to identify the airports that are experiencing the most challenging weather conditions right now. It merges METAR and TAF data to find challenging places to go practice maneuvers.
